Happy Friday Families!
It has been a wonderful week back. I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing all the stories of family adventures during our time away from school. Each year students grade 3rd-8th take various forms of standardized state assessments. Although testing was cancelled last year due to COVID, it is back to being a requirement for our students per Florida Statute 1008.22.f. All students must take the FSA test in school, no remote administrations are available for any statewide summative assessments. The importance of your child taking these assessments is to assist the school in proper placement for the 2021-2022 school year. This includes identifying gifted, possible acceleration opportunities leading up to middle school, or intensive supports next year. Further, our students historically excel on these assessments. They are important to the teachers and administrators because they provide helpful data on the quality of our curriculum, instruction, and programs. In short, we use these assessments to improve everything they do. To help your student become comfortable with the item types and response formats, the following resources including Paper-Based Practice Tests and Answer Keys, are available at: https://fsassessments.org/students-and-families/practice-tests/paper-based-materials/paper-based-practice-test-materials.stml 4th Grade Testing Schedule 4th Grade Writing- Tuesday, April 8th (make ups until April 30th) 4th Grade ELA- Monday May 3rd and Tuesday May 4th (make ups until May 28th) 4th Grade Math- Monday May 10th and Tuesday May 11th (make ups until May 28th) What will my student be learning next week? Friday, March 12, 4th grade is going on a Virtual Field Trip. We will be turning our classroom into a theater to watch a presentation of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. It will be a great time for all. Next week is Plato St. Pete's International Week of Happiness. We will have activities each day to celebrate happiness. Friday, March 12th we want to celebrate happiness as a school by wearing the colors of the rainbow! Each grade had been assigned a color. Fourth Grade was assigned PURPLE! Please have your student wear that color with uniform bottoms. Please ask your students if there are any supplies they are needing for school. As the year goes on, many students are running low on pencils, colored pencils, and dry erase markers. Headphones are also necessary for all students in our class and in Music class, but have been broken or lost. Please make sure your child has what they need for school. Due to Covid restrictions, students are not allowed to share belongings and should have their own supplies. If your family is in need of assistance, let me know and I will help find a solution. Reminder, if your child is absent make sure you report the absence to me and Ms. Johnson ([email protected]), as every absence has to be coded in our system.
